What to rent at the video store.

On Monday, I will go to a screening of The Haunted Mansion so I can write a review for the Portland Mercury. I am not looking forward to it. Even if the story and the special effects don't screw up the whole 1960s Haunted Mansion zeitgeist, Eddie Murphy is bound to infuriate me with his Amos-n'-Andy antics. Man, hasn't Hollywood progressed at all in seventy years of cinematic portrayals of black people?

Oh, and I understand the rumors that Don "Ghost-and-Mr-Chicken" Knotts plays the fraidy-cat sexton turn out to be false.

Have I mentioned that while the Haunted Mansion movie is in theaters, the movie Nightmare Before Christmas is in the Haunted Mansion? What kind of synergy is THAT?

Feh.

A little industry info:

"ORLANDO, Fla. At this amusement park for amusement park operators, you can see a grown man ride a stuffed ostrich. You can sample glow-in-the-dark flavored ice sticks. And you can take a spin on a state-of-the-art, million-dollar roller coaster & then buy it. "

Conspiracy Ride Theory
From the PBS documentary The Kennedys:

BILLY SUTTON (campaign aide):"John Kennedy was a juvenile, too, you know. The end of the day, we'd have dates with these girls and he had a fetish for roller coasters. I hated them. And he always would-- you know, he'd take these rides and the-- I just couldn't handle the roller coaster. And there was a guy there, I think he was from Time Magazine, he saw him come on and he finally said, 'Isn't that that Kennedy guy from Boston, the congressman?' I said, 'No, but he looks like him, though, doesn't he?' "
