New Negrotopia is the latest venture by [Tana] Hargest's fictitious corporation Bitter Nigger, Inc. Consisting of a promotional video for investors, a website, and actual trade show booths, New Negrotopia is presented as a virtual island resort and amusement park in which the participant becomes a tourist travelling through his or her own racial history and assumptions. New Negrotopia consists of several interactive environments, including: Atlantic Adventure, a 3-D interactive experience of the Middle Passage; the Cotton Bales on the Mississippi water ride; and The Institute of Thinking, a mock-academic think tank located in paradise. [T]he piece is designed to be a fictitious theme park similar to Disneyland. Borrowing the seemingly boundless mass marketing strategies of the Disney corporation, New Negrotopia will include a promotional video for potential investors, a website, and a booth that Hargest will take to various trade shows. "Obviously there's the component of looking at hierarchies of race and class, but I'm doing it by using the language of consumer culture, offering a critique of those strategies while using those strategies," she explains. "I hope to be able to illustrate the ways in which we enter into these monolithic structures."

Knoebels park is recreating the Norman Bartlett Flying Turns ride!

Article on John Fetterman, the guy in charge of the construction, here.

Best quote: "It's built on a human scale. I could certainly design something extreme, something stultifyingly stupid, but I won't even consider doing it. It's too easy, and ultimately disappointing." Spoken like a true artist!
